- Debunking Breakfast Myths: The Unexpected Truth about Oatmeal, Banana, and Orange Juice
Is Your Breakfast Truly Healthy? Think about your typical morning meal. Does it involve a steaming bowl of oatmeal, a ripe banana, and a fresh glass of orange juice? If you nodded in agreement, you might believe you are fueling your body with a nutritious start to the day. But, is this widely accepted breakfast trio really as healthy as it's made out to be? Let's dive into the details and debunk some commonly held myths. Unmasking the Glycemic Index: Your Meal's Sugar Impact To understand the health impact of your breakfast, we need to introduce a key player: the glycemic index. Imagine the glycemic index as a speedometer, but for food. Instead of showing how fast you're going, it reveals how quickly a food transforms into sugar in your bloodstream. Its scale ranges from 0 to 100 - the higher the number, the faster a food turns into sugar, and consequently, the quicker your sugar levels spike post meal. The Not-So-Sweet Truth about Popular Breakfast Foods Now, armed with this knowledge, let's evaluate our breakfast foods against this index. Wheat bread, oatmeal, and Cheerios all share a glycemic index of 74. Yes, your beloved oatmeal is up there. Even white rice, with an index score of 98, can cause an abrupt surge in blood sugar. Cashews - The Unlikely Breakfast Hero In comparison, cashews score a mere 22 on the glycemic index. This notably lower value is due to two key components: proteins and fats. These nutrients slow the conversion of food into sugar, making cashews a healthier option. Redefining a Healthy Breakfast As we dissect the glycemic index further, you'll notice a recurring trend. Foods rich in proteins and fats, like eggs and avocados, register a minimal glycemic index of one. This finding suggests an alternative approach to breakfast that could help reduce inflammation and promote overall health. The Verdict: Rethink Your Morning Ritual In conclusion, the quintessential breakfast of oatmeal, banana, and orange juice may not be the health champion you thought it was. By rethinking our breakfast choices to include more proteins and fats, we can shift towards a more balanced and nutritious start to the day. Are you ready to flip the script on breakfast? Schedule a call with Dr. Hugh now to start getting the care you deserve to feel better.

- Discover the Ultimate Hack to Stop Fish Oil Burping
Are you tired of experiencing fish oil burps after taking your daily dose of this essential supplement ? Well, fear not, because I have a simple trick that can put an end to this unpleasant dilemma. In this episode of True Health Recovery, I will share with you an ultimate hack that will help you enjoy the benefits of fish oil without the unwanted burping sensation. So, pay close attention and get ready to say goodbye to fish oil burps once and for all. The Fish Oil Burping Challenge: A Simple Solution If you're someone who relies on fish oil to saturate your cells with its natural anti-inflammatory properties but finds yourself troubled by post-consumption burping, this ultimate hack might just be the answer you've been searching for. Introducing the Freezer Method Imagine this: your trusty fish oil capsules chilling in the freezer. Yes, you read that right. By freezing those little capsules, you can change the game. When it's time to take them, be sure to wash them down with a glass of cold water. Now, let me explain the science behind this hack. Freezing the capsules causes the fats within them to solidify. And here's where the magic happens. When you consume the frozen capsules, they have the potential to reach your small intestine before thawing out, which means you can bypass the notorious fish oil burp. It's a simple yet effective trick that can make a world of difference. Addressing Underlying Factors While the freezer method has proven successful for many individuals, it's essential to recognize that it might not work for everyone. If you still find yourself experiencing fish oil burps, it's time to delve deeper into the underlying issues. Firstly, it's possible that you have a sensitivity to the oil itself. Freezing the capsules and allowing them to bypass your stomach might just solve the problem in such cases. If this solution works for you, consider it a victory in your quest for a burp-free fish oil experience. However, if the burping persists, it could be an indicator of other issues. One possibility is that the fish oil you're using is of poor quality. Opting for higher-grade options instead of cheaply bought fish oil from your local drugstore or supermarket may provide better results. Alternatively, inadequate levels of hydrochloric acid in your stomach could make it challenging to digest and break down fats, leading to burping. If you suspect this might be the case, seeking further guidance from a healthcare professional can be beneficial. A Quick and Effortless Solution There you have it—a quick and easy-to-implement hack that has helped numerous individuals overcome their fish oil burping woes. Sometimes, the simplest solutions can have the most significant impact on our well-being. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out. My mission is to assist people worldwide in recovering from chronic conditions. Remember, where there's help, there's hope. Take care and stay well, Dr. Hugh
- Thyroid Secrets: How High Reverse T3 Levels Could Be Slowing You Down
What's This "Reverse T3" Everyone's Talking About? Listen up. If there's one thing I want you to grasp about your thyroid, it's the significance of this under-discussed hormone: reverse T3. Hold onto your hat, we're diving deep! What are the Symptoms of a High Reverse T3: The Red Flags So, you've heard murmurs about reverse T3 but are unsure about the telltale signs? Let me break it down in the simplest terms: Fatigue: Ever feel like you've hit a wall and can't muster the energy? Bingo. Weight loss struggles: Trying all the diets but the scale won’t budge? Might be a culprit here. Brain fog: Those moments when thoughts seem to escape like mist? Yep, it's on the list. Muscle aches: And I'm not talking about after a tough gym session. The Real Deal Behind Reverse T3 Okay, let’s get a clear picture here. Think of your thyroid like an engine. The hormone you often hear about, total T3, is the gas pedal, making things move. But reverse T3? That’s the sneaky brake that sometimes comes on when you least expect it. When reverse T3 levels shoot up, they’re essentially pressing down on that brake, making your body’s engine scream for relief. What is a high Reverse T3 number? Consider this: I recently had a look at a client's lab results. Her reverse T3? A whopping 32.5. Now, if you compare it to the standard range (which is 9.2 to 24.1, just so you know), she's way above the bar. Ideally, I'd want that number around a cozy 15. Why? Because the higher the reverse T3, the harder your body's "engine" has to work. Picture driving with your car’s handbrake on – not a smooth ride, right? The Bottom Line on High Reverse T3 It's not just about numbers or vague symptoms. High reverse T3 literally blocks your powerhouse hormone, T3, from doing its job. It's like turning up to work ready to smash the day, but someone's put a giant roadblock in your way. Or, in car terms, imagine pressing the gas while your emergency brake is stubbornly holding you back. Your engine struggles, revs, and eventually burns out. Spread the Knowledge Found this nugget of wisdom insightful? Pass it on! Share, comment, and let's get everyone in the know. We could all use a smoother drive in life, right? #Thyroid #ReverseT3 #HealthTips #WellnessCheck #ThyroidHealh ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Schedule a call with Dr. Hugh now to start getting the care you deserve to feel better.
- Leaky Brain and the Blood-Brain Barrier
You may have heard of leaky gut, but have you heard of leaky brain? Sometimes the immune barriers in the body break down, letting in pollutants, toxins, and other irritants that would normally be kept out. This often happens in the gut or the lungs, which you might have heard referred to as leaky gut or leaky lung syndrome. But there’s another, lesser-known kind of barrier breakdown that can happen in the brain. While thousands of papers have been published on intestinal permeability and how it causes dysfunction throughout the body, the blood-brain barrier model is just now starting to receive widespread recognition. Commonly called leaky brain, the breakdown of the blood-brain barrier can let through infections, pathogens, and other environmental triggers, leading to inflammation and neurodegeneration. People who suffer from leaky brain often experience neurological symptoms including brain fog, memory loss, and depression. So what causes the blood-brain barrier to break down, and what can you do to improve it? What is the blood-brain barrier? Before we talk about the symptoms of leaky brain, what causes it, and what you can do about it, we first need to go over what the blood-brain barrier is and what it normally does. The blood-brain barrier is made of blood vessels and cells called astrocytes. Together, they create a barrier that keeps pollutants, toxins, circulating antibodies, and dietary proteins out. When this barrier becomes overly permeable, chemicals in the bloodstream, pathogens, and circulating antibodies can cross over and cause inflammation in the brain.” What are the symptoms of a leaky brain? Brain fog Difficulty concentrating Lack of motor coordination Brain fatigue Depression Cognitive delays Lowered mental endurance Decreased nerve conduction speed All of these symptoms are associated with inflammation and neurodegeneration. Brain inflammation interferes with regular synaptic activity, slowing nerve conduction and making everything the brain needs to do less efficient. Motor skills, mental endurance, and memory are all impacted. All of a sudden, a practiced tennis player might have difficulty serving the ball, or an avid reader may be unable to finish a single page.. How to diagnose leaky brain syndrome So how do we determine if a patient has blood-brain barrier permeability? The most well-known test measures a marker called S100B, as elevated levels of the marker are a common sign of increased permeability. Doctors can also test for leaky brain by looking at different protein antibodies. These kinds of circulating antibodies can’t cross the brain unless the barrier has been broken down, so their presence also indicates increased permeability. While always an issue, this is especially concerning for those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. Gluten’s amino acid sequence is very similar to the protein structure of certain regions in the brain, specifically neurofilament proteins and astrocytes in the cerebellum. Due to this similarity, gluten is often able to mimic these protein structures, causing gluten antibodies to bind to the brain. This concept is called molecular mimicry and it causes the immune system to attack and destroy brain tissue every time the gluten-sensitive person (experiencing this mechanism, which is not everyone) eats gluten. In fact, gluten sensitivity and celiac disease affect primarily nerve and brain tissue. No other food is more of a trigger for neurological dysfunction and neurological autoimmunity than gluten. What causes the blood-brain barrier to break down? Anything that impacts healthy blood vessel function or creates persistent inflammation can cause the blood-brain barrier to break down. Unless managed through dietary and lifestyle strategies, chronic inflammatory and autoimmune disorders such as lupus, Hashimoto’s, or rheumatoid arthritis have the potential to break down the barriers in the body, including the gut, lung, and brain barriers. We also know that inflammatory bowel diseases and chronic gut inflammation can contribute to the permeability of the blood-brain barrier. It’s been proven that inflammation in the gut often means inflammation in the brain, Traumatic brain injuries are another common cause of leaky brain. When the brain is injured, the blood-brain barrier intentionally opens to allow the passage of immune cells. After the immune cells enter in order to help the injured brain, the barrier is supposed to close back up – but this doesn’t always occur. Patients with traumatic brain injuries often notice their brain function declines over time because their blood-brain barrier has never truly healed.
- Unveiling Cholesterol: The Unseen Hero of Optimal Health
Cholesterol often carries a villainous reputation when it comes to health discussions. However, this misunderstood substance is not your adversary, but rather a critical ally in the pursuit of optimal health. Let's delve deeper into the world of cholesterol, demystifying its essential role in maintaining your overall well-being. Decoding the Essence of Cholesterol in Cellular Health Cholesterol is not merely an unwelcome guest in your body; it forms an integral part of your cellular structure. A staggering 30% of your cell membranes are built from cholesterol. Insufficient levels can therefore compromise cell membrane health, leading to a cascade of physiological issues. Our bodies are marvels of biological engineering, with cholesterol acting as a key component in every cell. Whether it's the neurons in your brain, the hepatocytes in your liver, or the keratinocytes in your skin, cholesterol is omnipresent. If you could take a microscopic view of your cells, you'd witness a sea of yellow dots – that's cholesterol, the silent workhorse of your body's cellular machinery. The Ideal Cholesterol Range: Striking the Balance Navigating the cholesterol conundrum starts with understanding the appropriate levels. Ideally, total cholesterol levels should hover between 200 and 250. But why is it so essential, and how does it contribute to your well-being? Let's break down the top five roles of cholesterol. 1. Nurturing Brain and Nervous System Health Cholesterol is pivotal for maintaining a robust brain and a well-functioning nervous system. It serves as an essential component for nerve conduction and brain health, contributing to your cognitive prowess and nervous system integrity. 2. Facilitating Smooth Digestion Cholesterol aids in digestion by playing a crucial part in the formation of bile, a substance that helps digest fats. Without adequate cholesterol, your digestion could be thrown off balance, potentially leading to discomfort and malabsorption. 3. Assisting in Fat Metabolism When you consume fats, cholesterol steps in as a trusty assistant, helping to break down these dietary fats. This process is crucial for energy production and the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. 4. The Backbone of Hormonal Balance Hormones like testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone owe their existence to cholesterol. It acts as a building block for these hormones, thereby ensuring their optimal production. Maintaining sufficient cholesterol levels is crucial for hormonal balance and overall vitality. 5. Vital for Vitamin D Synthesis The synthesis of vitamin D in your body is another area where cholesterol shines. It's required for the production of this essential vitamin, which plays a myriad of roles in your body, from bone health to immune function. Now that you're privy to the critical functions of cholesterol, it's time to shift our perspective from viewing it as an enemy to recognizing it as an essential ally in our quest for optimal health. If you found this article enlightening, don't forget to like, comment, and share it with your loved ones. Remember, knowledge is power, and sharing it only amplifies its effect.
- Advanced cholesterol lab testings explained in 90 seconds!
Have you ever had your cholesterol levels checked and received a clean bill of health? It's time to take a closer look at your heart health with NMR Lipid Profile testing. This advanced test measures the number of small LDL particles in your bloodstream, giving you a more accurate picture of your risk for cardiovascular disease. In this test, LDL particle number is the key metric to pay attention to. A number less than 100 is ideal, while a number greater than 2000 is considered very high. This is because the more small LDL particles you have, the higher your risk for heart disease. It's important to note that 50% of all heart attack patients have normal cholesterol levels. Total cholesterol is no longer considered the best indicator of heart health. That's why the NMR Lipid Profile is so important – it provides a more comprehensive understanding of your specific LDL particle size and number. - Unveiling the Truth About Floxing: The Devastating Effects of Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics
Fluoroquinolones, a commonly prescribed class of antibiotics, are intended to combat bacterial infections effectively. However, there is a dark side to these drugs that often goes unrecognized. Many individuals who have taken fluoroquinolones, such as levofloxacin (Levaquin), ciprofloxacin (Cipro), moxifloxacin (Avelox), and others, have experienced severe and lasting side effects, leading to a condition known as "floxed." In this article, we will delve into the risks associated with fluoroquinolones, the symptoms of floxing, and the impact on the central nervous system. Furthermore, we will explore how identifying and treating floxing can help individuals regain their health and well-being. Unveiling the Risks of Taking Fluoroquinolones: While the FDA has approved fluoroquinolones for medical use, it is crucial to acknowledge that these drugs are not without risks. To ensure patient safety, the FDA mandates warning labels on fluoroquinolone medications, explicitly highlighting the potential for severe side effects. Regrettably, these side effects can be both physical and mental, as indicated on the warning labels. Patients may experience a wide range of symptoms, including depression, anxiety, nervousness, tingling, numbness, balance issues, tremors, dizziness, ringing in the ears, eye floaters, difficulty breathing, overwhelming feelings, muscle twitching, spontaneous muscle jerks, digestive issues, and fatigue. The variability of these side effects often leaves patients struggling to find an accurate explanation for their symptoms, sometimes leading to misdiagnoses or prescriptions of antipsychotic medication. Understanding the Role of the Cerebellum and GABA Receptors in Floxed Symptoms: The central nervous system, particularly the cerebellum and its GABA receptors, plays a critical role in the occurrence of floxing. GABA receptors, located in the cerebellum, facilitate relaxation, improve sleep quality, alleviate PMS symptoms, aid attention deficit disorder, regulate growth hormones, reduce inflammation, and mitigate depression, among other essential functions. The cerebellum acts as the gateway between the brain and the rest of the body, controlling the passage of sensory and motor neuron signals. When fluoroquinolones disrupt the GABA receptors, the cerebellum, with its dense neuronal activity, becomes directly impacted. Consequently, the cerebellum's dysfunction prevents effective regulation of neuronal messages, leading to the broad array of symptoms associated with floxing. Identifying Floxed Symptoms and Starting Fluoroquinolone toxicity treatment: Accurate diagnosis plays a pivotal role in effectively managing floxing. Through MRI scans, medical professionals can identify cerebellum damage, a hallmark of floxing. MRI images showcasing cerebellum degeneration present a clear visual representation of the damage caused by fluoroquinolone toxicity. When the cerebellum sustains significant damage and the GABA receptors are affected, individuals often experience difficulties in relaxation, such as increased nervousness, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and even night sweats. In severe cases, individuals may perceive an impending sense of doom due to the extensive cerebellar damage. Floxing extends beyond the realm of relaxation issues; it affects the entire central nervous system, consisting of the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems. The parasympathetic system promotes relaxation and digestion, while the sympathetic system triggers the fight or flight response. Severe damage or inadequate GABA receptors can disrupt this delicate balance, leading to symptoms such as dilated pupils, rapid heart rate, increased lung activity, and gastrointestinal problems. Identifying the underlying imbalances within the nervous system is crucial to resolving these symptoms and restoring overall well-being. Restoring Balance from Floxed Symptoms and Seeking Help: Rebalancing the nervous system represents the key to alleviating floxing symptoms, although each individual's journey may differ. Consulting with a functional neurology doctor can provide invaluable guidance and support in this process. Through a simple discovery call, a functional neurology doctor can conduct tests to evaluate the cerebellum's functionality and determine the appropriate exercises to enhance brain function. Since each individual's needs are unique, a personalized functional medicine approach is essential. By understanding your specific requirements and focusing on strengthening the damaged cerebellum, a tailored plan can be devised to facilitate your recovery and improve your overall quality of life. Final Thoughts for People who have been Floxed : Floxing, a term used to describe the devastating effects of fluoroquinolone antibiotics, sheds light on the hidden risks associated with these medications. It is essential to recognize the potential for severe side effects and the impact on the central nervous system, particularly the cerebellum and GABA receptors. Identifying floxing and seeking appropriate treatment through functional medicine can empower individuals to regain their health and well-being. Remember, if you suspect you have been floxed or are experiencing lingering symptoms after fluoroquinolone use, do not hesitate to consult with a qualified healthcare professional to receive the support and care you deserve.

- Insurance cost of labs $805, my cost $54
Why Is the Cost of Labs So High? When the largest portion of all bankruptcies in the United States comes from outstanding medical bills, you know there is a problem inherent in the system. One great example of this is the cost of labs. I would like to give you a solution to lowering the cost of your labs. Looking at one of my own invoices for the cost of labs I had done with Quest Diagnostics (one of the largest diagnostics companies in the nation), you can see I had a wide range of tests done. The total cost came to $1,586.17, and that was just from the first page of the invoice. Breaking it Down Back in 2013, when this invoice was sent to me, the first test (Thyroxine) cost me $140.61. Now it costs me $8. How? Since then I have begun working with a co-op of medical professionals who are trying to drive the cost down. To make that happen, I do not upcharge for labs. Instead, I only charge patients for whatever the lab costs me as the medical professional. That comes out to $8. Similarly, I am now able to get the cost of a $48 down to $5, and a $125 test down to the cost of a Starbucks order. LOOK AT THE UPCHARGE ON LABS Insurance cost $47~ MY COST $5 thyroid marker Insurance cost $125~ MY COST $6 thyroid marker Insurance cost $232~ MY COST $18 vitamin D Insurance cost $217~ MY COST $10 thyroid marker Insurance cost $44~ MY COST $7 checks basics minerals Why Does This Happen? In short, it is because insurance companies are ripping you off, as well as your employer, your doctor, and more. When your doctor bills your insurance, the cost inflates significantly for essentially no reason. What should be $400 in tests becomes $5,000, while your deductibles may be around that number or even higher. The reason an $18 vitamin D test turns into a $270 test on your bill is insurance. How to Lower Costs The easiest way to lower your lab costs is to work with me. In 2013, my labs cost $805 to run, and now those same labs only cost $54. That is a 93% discount for the same exact tests. Right now the conventional medical system is there to rip you off and keep you sick. Using my polytherapy approach is important to healing, but also helps avoid these outrageous costs of medical care. Remember, where there is help there is hope. - Unexplained Symptoms? Do You Have an Undiagnosed Autoimmune Disease ~Lupus~rheumatoid arthritis~MS
Do You Have an Undiagnosed Autoimmune Disease? It May be Caused by Antibiotics. Do you have recurring, unexplained symptoms that resemble an autoimmune disease? This is more common than you think. Undiagnosed autoimmune disorders can cause chronic pain, fatigue, and an overall lower quality of life, so read on if you believe you might be affected. Research shows that it’s possible for antibiotics and fluoroquinolones – Cipro, Levaquin, Flagyl, Bactrim, and others – to cause this autoimmunity. In this blog post, I’ll go over why this is occurring using the latest medical research alongside my personal clinical experience helping thousands of people who have been damaged by antibiotics. What is Autoimmune Disease? Autoimmune disease is when your body sees tissue – your thyroid, for example – and instead of seeing a normal amount of this tissue, it thinks it sees an excess. Then, your immune system says, “Whoa, that's got to be foreign. Is it friend or foe?” In most cases, any perceived excess of tissue is going to be seen as “foe” and the immune system will start to attack it. This is what causes autoimmune symptoms. The building up of related symptoms over time due to a systemic cause is “disease.” The way I see it is when you have autoimmune disease, it's like your immune system is a little drunk. It’s as though you're driving and you’ve had too much to drink; instead of one car, you see two cars, or four cars, or eight cars. The same thing happens with your immune system. It’s taking all these different pictures of what’s going on in your body, flagging them as “friend” or “foe.” But if it can’t differentiate them, it will always lean more aggressive and assume it’s a foe, attacking tissues that might have been friendly simply because it’s seeing double. When you take antibiotics, what happens in your blood? You’ve probably heard of plasma, which makes up about 55% of your blood. About one percent of your blood is white blood cells, and the rest is red blood cells. You can donate plasma at clinics all over the country in exchange for payment – you might have even seen ads for this service. When you donate plasma, which you can do twice per week, you’re also giving your body’s nutrients. That’s because a large portion of the nutrients that your body needs is held in your plasma in the form of particular proteins. When you ingest antibiotics, especially fluoroquinolone medications, these drugs attach to the proteins in your plasma – the globulin in your bloodstream. They can cause severe autoimmune reactions or even a mild, low-grade autoimmune disease. In someone who suffers from tendon, nerve, or stomach problems and has taken these drugs, there's a high probability that your immune system recognizes the tissues in your body as foreign, and is actively seeking out and attacking them. That's the definition of autoimmune disease we covered earlier. But What Is Plasma? Let's Go Deeper. We know the plasma in your blood makes up 55% of the total, but what makes up the plasma? The proteins albumin, globulin, and fibrinogen make up the plasma, with different percentages of each (plus water) going toward the total 55% of whole blood. Albumin is the most abundant protein, but the most abundant material in plasma is actually water, making up 90% of the plasma. Think of the proteins like cargo ships in the sea of plasma, transporting important materials around the body. Plasma surrounds the blood cells, and the proteins float in it. When a drug enters the system, the drug attaches to the albumin in a process called haptenation. But it shouldn’t be there according to your body’s immune system. Thus, the immune system attacks it, destroying important proteins and their functions. What does the research say? You may know someone who is on these medications and had has no major health concerns as a result. They are in the minority. According to the research, allergy towards a wide spectrum of antibiotics such as amoxicillin is a major health concern. Albumin, the essential protein in plasma, is considered by science to be a major target for haptenation by antibiotics. This means the drug is likely to attach to the albumin, causing the autoimmune response we touched on earlier. It’s important to emphasize that the drug by itself does not cause the autoimmune response, but the drug attached to the protein (haptenation) that is the culprit. More importantly, the albumin with haptenation can look like other tissues in the body. So, when your immune system recognizes the albumin with the drug attached to it as foreign, it “takes a picture” of this as something that must be attacked. But because the affected albumin can look like other tissues – your heart, tendons, nervous system, brain, adrenal glands, gut protein, and more – your immune system may also begin to attack these vital tissues as well. This is where the autoimmune disease begins. So, how do you get better clinically? First, you and your doctor must take the approach that you have an autoimmune disease. This changes the overall treatment protocol. Although you may have bounced from doctor to doctor in the past, none of them diagnosing you with an autoimmune condition, just know that it is common and entirely possible for you to be suffering with autoimmunity. Clinical trials are improving our understanding of autoimmunity. A new method of lab testing has made it possible to determine whether there is an autoimmune disease present in your body, but it’s not available conventionally yet. In the United States, twice as much money is spent on autoimmune diseases as is spent on cancer, and the clinical research shows drugs induce autoimmune disease. What other things increase autoimmune disease? Low blood pressure, high blood pressure, food sensitivities to dairy, gluten, soy, nightshades, and eggs all play a part. Leaky gut, overactivity of certain parts of your immune system, high homocysteine, CRP insulin, not enough sleep, parasites, and more are also culprits. That means a lot of things can be contributing to your autoimmune disease, and a first step can be figuring that out with your doctor. Just know that there’s help. - Can mRNA COVID Vaccines Cause Heart Inflammation?
A Study Finds Dramatic Increase in Inflammatory Markers and ACS Risk In recent months, concerns have been raised about the potential link between mRNA COVID vaccines and heart inflammation. A new study conducted by a group of researchers provides insight into the matter, and the findings are alarming. The study indicates that mRNA COVID vaccines can cause a significant increase in inflammation markers of the heart, as well as increase the risk of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). The PULS Cardiac Test Using the PULS Cardiac Test (GD Biosciences, Inc, Irvine, CA), the researchers measured multiple protein biomarkers, including IL-16, sFas, and HGF, which are associated with inflammation and T cell infiltration of cardiac muscle. The test generates a score predicting the 5-year risk of a new ACS. The study was conducted on 566 patients aged 28 to 97, M:F ratio 1:1, seen in a preventive cardiology practice. The patients were tested 2 to 10 weeks following the second COVID vaccine shot and compared to their previous test results taken 3 to 5 months before the shot. The Results The results showed that there was a dramatic increase in the inflammatory markers of the heart after the second shot, with IL-16 increasing from 35+/-20 above the norm to 82+/-75 above the norm, sFas increasing from 22+/-15 above the norm to 46+/-24 above the norm, and HGF increasing from 42+/-12 above the norm to 86+/-31 above the norm. These changes resulted in an increase in the PULS score from 11% 5-year ACS risk to 25% 5-year ACS risk. At the time of this report, these changes persist for at least 2.5 months post-second dose of the vaccine. Conclusion The study suggests that the mRNA COVID vaccines can significantly increase inflammation on the endothelium and T cell infiltration of cardiac muscle. The increase in inflammatory markers can account for the observations of increased thrombosis, cardiomyopathy, and other vascular events following vaccination. Takeaway In conclusion, this study provides evidence of the potential link between mRNA COVID vaccines and heart inflammation. The findings suggest that mRNA vaccines can cause a significant increase in inflammation markers of the heart and increase the risk of ACS. The study raises concerns about the safety of mRNA vaccines and highlights the need for further research into the matter. Note: It's important to note that this is just one study, and more research is needed to confirm these findings. The benefits of getting vaccinated against COVID-19 still outweigh the risks, especially for those at higher risk of severe illness or death from the virus. If you have concerns or questions about the COVID-19 vaccine, talk to your healthcare provider.
- How to Decrease Neural Stimulation: The Solution for Overloaded Brains
Introduction In today's fast-paced world, our brains often become overwhelmed with excessive stimulation, leading to various symptoms and mental health issues. However, there are effective ways to combat this problem. In this article, we will explore how to decrease neural stimulation and restore balance to your brain. By implementing simple yet powerful techniques like wearing blue light glasses, you can alleviate symptoms such as anxiety, depression, brain fog, and more. Let's delve into the details and discover the path to a healthier, more relaxed brain. Understanding Blue Light and Its Effects Blue light is a type of light emitted by electronic screens, including computer monitors, smartphones, and televisions. Prolonged exposure to blue light can cause a range of issues such as eye strain, headaches, migraines, fatigue, and even insomnia due to decreased melatonin production. Given the prevalence of electronic devices in our lives, it's crucial to address this modern-day problem. The Role of Blue Light Glasses Blue light glasses offer a simple yet effective solution to reduce the negative impact of blue light on our brains. These glasses act as a filter, significantly reducing the amount of blue light reaching our eyes. They are affordable and widely available, making them easily accessible to anyone seeking relief from excessive neural stimulation. Even if you don't require prescription glasses, wearing blue light glasses when using screens can have a profound impact on your brain's relaxation and recovery. The Overstimulated Brain and Its Symptoms When our brains are constantly bombarded with excessive stimulation, their natural balance is disrupted. In typical circumstances, about 90% of the brain is attempting to regulate the remaining 10% by signaling it to "stop." However, in individuals who have experienced conditions like being "floxed" or suffered strokes, this balance is disturbed. In these cases, the brain can be stuck in a state of hyperdrive, with 60% of the brain signaling "stop" and only 40% in "go" mode. This constant overstimulation can result in symptoms such as anxiety, racing heart, depression, neurological issues, brain fog, and brain fatigue. Restoring Balance with Blue Light Glasses By reducing exposure to blue light through the use of blue light glasses, we can help restore balance to an overstimulated brain. These glasses provide a much-needed break for the brain, allowing it to relax and recover from the constant influx of stimulation. By addressing the root cause of the symptoms, we can alleviate their severity and improve overall well-being. Additional Techniques to Decrease Stimulation Alongside blue light glasses, earmuffs are another cost-effective tool to consider. Wearing earmuffs can further reduce the amount of external stimulation your brain has to process. By minimizing auditory input, earmuffs provide an additional layer of support in your journey towards a calmer, more focused mind. Conclusion: Finding Relief and Seeking Professional Guidance Dealing with an overstimulated brain can be challenging, but effective treatment methods exist. Incorporating blue light glasses and earmuffs into your routine can significantly reduce neural stimulation, relieve symptoms, and enhance your quality of life. It's important to remember that this approach is a supplementary strategy and should be personalized based on individual needs. Additionally, addressing nutritional factors and strengthening the blood-brain barrier can further support brain health. To develop a comprehensive plan tailored to your specific situation, consult with a healthcare professional or reach out to me for guidance. Together, we can unlock the potential for a healthier, happier brain.
- Unleash the Power of Your Vagus Nerve: Transform Your Gut Health with These Exercises!
Introduction to the Vagus Nerve Is your brain causing problems with your gut? It might be! Your brain's condition can actually affect the health of your gut . One crucial element in this connection is the vagus nerve, a large nerve responsible for communication between your organs and your brain. When your brain is not in good shape, it can hinder the activity of the vagus nerve, ultimately leading to suboptimal digestive function. Spotting Poor Vagus Nerve Function There are ways to identify poor vagus nerve function through a simple examination. For instance, a healthcare practitioner can listen to your abdomen with a stethoscope and should be able to hear rumbling sounds. This rumbling indicates healthy bowel motility, which relies on the proper functioning of the vagus nerve. However, when the gut-brain connection is impaired, you may hear very little rumbling. Another sign of poor vagus nerve function is the inability of the uvula to rise. The uvula is the tissue hanging at the back of your throat, resembling a punching bag. When you say "ahh" during a doctor's visit, they observe whether the uvula rises as it should. If the vagus nerve is not functioning properly, the uvula will not rise much. Similarly, the gag reflex can provide insights into vagus nerve activity. If a person with chronic digestive problems and poor brain function exhibits poor gag reflex responses, it strongly suggests that the gut-brain connection is not functioning well. The Gut-Brain Axis and Neglected Patient Care Regrettably, many doctors tend to overlook the importance of the gut-brain axis in patients with chronic gut complaints. While interventions such as enzymes, probiotics, and other digestive aids can improve digestive health, it is essential to focus on enhancing brain health to support and improve the gut-brain axis. The Importance of Stimulating the Vagus Nerve Just like muscles, neurons require constant stimulation to stay healthy. If you break your arm and wear a cast, your muscles will shrink within a few weeks due to reduced activity. Neurons are no different—they need activation to maintain their function. It is important to note that 90 percent of the brain's output passes through the brainstem. When the brain is not functioning properly, it fails to adequately stimulate the vagus nerve, leading to reduced activity in the gastrointestinal tract. Strengthening the Vagus Nerve Functional medicine practitioners focus on rehabilitating the vagus nerve through exercises that strengthen it, similar to how muscles can be developed through targeted exercises. Functional neurology brain rehabilitation follows the same principle. By stimulating weak neurons, they can develop more proteins and become stronger, a process known as positive plasticity. This concept applies to any part of the brain. If you have a poorly functioning gut-brain axis and vagus nerve, specific neurological exercises can increase plasticity and improve the function of the vagus pathway. Vagal Exercises for Better Gut Health You can easily perform vagal exercises in the comfort of your own home. I often recommend the following exercises to my patients who have weak vagal tone and experience issues with the gut-brain axis: 1. Gargle The first exercise involves gargling with water several times a day. Gargling activates the muscles in the back of your throat that are controlled by the vagus nerve. By contracting these muscles, gargling stimulates the vagus nerve and enhances activity in the gastrointestinal tract. Make sure to drink several large glasses of water per day and gargle with each sip until you finish the glass. It should be challenging enough, just like using a heavier dumbbell to strengthen your arm. Perform this exercise consistently over several weeks to strengthen the vagal pathways. 2. Sing Loudly I also encourage my patients to sing as loudly as they can while driving or at home. Singing works the muscles in the back of the throat, activating the vagus nerve. Although it may bother your family members, I still recommend it for its beneficial effects on the gut-brain axis. 3. Gag Another exercise involves using tongue blades to stimulate the gag reflex throughout the day. Be careful not to hurt yourself by jabbing the back of your throat. Instead, place the tongue blade on the back of your tongue and push down gently to activate the gag reflex. Think of gag reflexes as doing push-ups for your vagus nerve, while gargling and singing loudly are like doing sprints. Consistently performing these exercises for several weeks will help strengthen vagal tone and improve the gut-brain axis. Remember, just like with weight training, you can't expect profound changes after only a couple of days. 4. Coffee Enemas For patients experiencing significant difficulties with regular bowel movements and brain degeneration, I recommend daily coffee enemas. The enema helps activate the vagus nerve by distending the intestines, while the caffeine in the coffee stimulates intestinal motility through cholinergic receptors. This aids in relieving bowel contents, which is crucial for overall health. Over time, many people notice improved bowel function and can gradually reduce their reliance on enemas. Coffee enemas also promote positive changes in the vagal system pathways. However, in cases of rapid brain degeneration surpassing the ability to gain positive changes, coffee enemas are used to prevent impacted bowels. Conclusion Even if you don't have severe constipation, leaky gut, or other gastrointestinal issues, it's still advisable to work on building vagal tone. Gargling, singing loudly, and performing gag reflexes can contribute to this effort. Remember, the loss of vagal tone is often a result of poor brain function. Therefore, it is essential to focus on strategies that improve overall brain health when addressing gut function. By diligently practicing these exercises and incorporating them into your routine, you can strengthen your vagus nerve, improve gut health, and enhance the gut-brain axis.

- Unlocking the Power of Intermittent Fasting and Ketosis for Optimal Health
Understanding the Benefits of Intermittent Fasting and Ketosis To understand the benefits of intermittent fasting and being in a state of ketosis, it is important to understand what those look like, and how to go about both. Fasting and intermittent fasting can help anyone trying to improve their overall health. Insulin, Glucose, and Inflammation Chronic inflammation can have a lot of effects on your body. So when you eat something like a bagel, your glucose goes up. Insulin attaches to the cell wall, allowing glucose to enter the cell and start producing energy. Because insulin is so pro-inflammatory, we actually don't really want to use glucose as a fuel source. It is better to be in a ketogenic state, where our bodies use fats as the source for fuel. Think of using fats for fuel like driving a Tesla: they are very efficient and fairly clean. Using glucose, on the other hand, is similar to driving a diesel engine. This is why ketogenic and paleo diets, as well as fasting, are critical for your recovery. The Importance of Diet The first step is to examine the patient’s diet and try to get them into eating habits that are as anti-inflammatory as possible. All foods can be reduced to a mixture of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. When you eat carbohydrates, you have a major spike in insulin, which again promotes inflammation. Proteins, on the other hand, result in a significantly lower insulin spike. There is still a noticeable increase in insulin, but not nearly as much. When you eat fats, there is hardly any insulin increase. This means a ketogenic, paleo, or otherwise high-fat diet is going to go a long way toward reducing inflammation. Intermittent Fasting So how does fasting play into this? There are several benefits of fasting, especially related to autophagy, or your body’s way of clearing out dead or damaged cells. As you might imagine, this is very, very important. All systems of your body create debris. Autophagy is your body’s way of removing that debris. When you are fasting, your body begins to look to these dead or damaged cells as a source of energy, since they are the proverbial “weakest link.” Anything weak or not of any use is processed and utilized for energy production. So by cleaning the system, by purging it of bad material, we can provide a better, much more clean environment for our bodies to function. This also raises ketones, which are used for energy, and are a much cleaner food source. It benefits the brain and the gut, and it turns off bad genes in the process. A lot of energy is used just to digest food. So if you are eating five, six, seven, or more times a day, there is a lot of energy that goes just to digest the food. When we are fasting, we don’t digest, so our body can devote that energy more towards healing. We want to divert those calories towards processes like hormone optimization, resetting microbes, gut influences, and more. How to Implement Intermittent Fasting At the end of the day, we need to fix your insulin . Intermittent fasting is a great way to help with that. One of the most common ways is to do what we call a 16/8 pattern. You don’t eat for 16 hours, then get all of your eating done in 8 hours. You might start eating at noon, and stop eating at 8 p.m., or start at 2 p.m. and stop at 10 p.m. The idea is to give yourself a break. There are multiple ways you can do that, but the 16/8 method is what I subscribe to, and that’s even only eating twice a day. No snacking. Looking at my own data, you can see why. When I eat, I have the same general insulin and glucose spikes, but throughout the rest of the day, I have a fairly low insulin level. My glucose goes up and down very quickly, but insulin increases and decreases very slowly. This gives me a rather large window of time where my insulin levels dip down and remain low throughout the majority of my day. Now, if you try this method and start off well but then fail and can’t keep consistent at first, that is okay. Sometimes I lose it, too. But the idea is that you continue to keep going and try to keep it as consistent as possible. One or two bad days shouldn’t mean you give up completely. Maybe it is too hard for you to start doing this right away. Often, I will recommend patients gradually work into it. First, reduce snacks, eating only breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Next, only eat two times a day. For some people, I recommend doing a 24-hour fast. If you are diabetic , pre-diabetic, or have other insulin-related problems, there may be a lot of reasons you cannot do 24-hour fasts, but they can be very beneficial for the majority of people. And this makes sense, historically, too. We live in a day and age where food is readily available all throughout the day. This is only a recent development. Hundreds of years ago, people did not always have the choice to fast. Sometimes they were starving, sometimes there just wasn’t food to go around. It is important for us today to go through 24-hour fasts. Sometimes I’ll even put people on 36 or 48-hour fasts. Again, start simple with just three meals a day (no snacking), then gradually work to two meals. After a bit of that, try 24-hour fasting and see how it goes. Once you get acclimated to this, it cleans up your diet and you just begin to feel much, much better. Conclusion: Embracing Intermittent Fasting and Ketosis for Optimal Health By understanding the benefits of intermittent fasting and ketosis, you can unlock a multitude of advantages for your health and well-being. From combating chronic inflammation to optimizing cellular clearance and energy utilization, these practices offer transformative effects. Remember, gradually implementing intermittent fasting and adopting a diet that prioritizes healthy fats can revolutionize your health, paving the way for a better quality of life. - The Tragic Death of My Dad: A Wake-Up Call About Conventional Medicine
The Broken System of Conventional Medicine The conventional healthcare system focuses more on symptom management than actual healing. Doctors are quick to prescribe medication after medication without considering alternative therapies or the root cause of the problem. This approach often leads to patients being overmedicated and suffering the consequences of taking too many drugs. The Sad Reality of Medication Overload My dad has been prescribed 16 different medications, all of which he took every single day. The more medications he was given, the worse his health became. His quality of life deteriorated, and he suffered through the debilitating side effects of the drugs he was taking. The Need for Alternative Therapies We need a new approach to healthcare that focuses on alternative therapies and treating the root cause of the problem. This means addressing issues like diet, lifestyle, and stress levels, rather than just managing symptoms with medication. A Beacon of Hope for a Better Future As a doctor, I'm committed to providing truthful information and compassionate care to help people take control of their health. Our bodies have the incredible power to heal themselves, but they need the right ingredients and guidance. And that's what I'm here for. - The Autoimmune Paleo Lifestyle (AIP)
Diet vs. Autoimmune Paleo Diet (AIP): Which One Should You Choose? There are countless diets and lifestyle programs out there that promise to improve your health and well-being. However, after 23 years of clinical experience, I've learned that no single diet fits everyone. In this blog post, we'll discuss the key differences between two popular diets: the paleo diet and the autoimmune paleo diet (AAP). By understanding the benefits and limitations of each, you can make an informed decision about which one is right for you. The paleo diet and the autoimmune paleo diet (AIP) both focus on whole, nutrient-dense foods, and eliminate processed foods and refined sugars. However, the AIP is more restrictive than the paleo diet, eliminating additional foods that may trigger autoimmune reactions. Let's take a closer look at the differences. The Autoimmune Paleo (AIP) Diet The autoimmune paleo diet (AIP) is a more restrictive version of the paleo diet, designed to eliminate additional foods that may trigger autoimmune reactions. The AIP removes eggs, nightshades, nuts, and seeds from the diet, as well as other potential allergens and irritants. Eliminating nightshades is particularly important because they contain lectins, which can cause inflammation in the body. For people who are sensitive to lectins, this can contribute to chronic inflammation and autoimmune conditions. The Paleolithic (Paleo) Diet The paleo diet is based on the idea that humans should eat foods that our ancestors ate before the advent of agriculture. The diet consists of whole foods like meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds. It eliminates processed foods, grains, legumes, and dairy. On the paleo diet, you can still consume eggs, nightshades, nuts, seeds, chocolate, and coffee. While some people may be sensitive to these foods, they are generally considered to be healthy and nutritious. Other Resources Conclusion If you're looking to improve your health through dietary modifications, both the paleo diet and the autoimmune paleo diet can be effective options. However, the AIP may be a better choice if you suffer from autoimmune conditions or chronic inflammation. It's worth experimenting with both diets to see what works best for your body. Keep in mind that there is no one-size-fits-all approach, so be open to making adjustments as needed.

- Stomach Acid: The Unsung Hero of Your Digestive Enzyme Production!
Digestion 101: Food, Acid, and You Here's a critical component of your body you probably haven't given much thought to: your stomach acid, particularly hydrochloric acid. You chew, you swallow, your food goes 'down the hatch,' and then what? How does that delicious steak transform into energy and nutrients for your body? Enter: hydrochloric acid, the unsung hero of your digestive system. What Hydrochloric Acid Does in Your Digestive Tract When you dine on a juicy steak, it's hydrochloric acid's responsibility to break that protein-packed meal down into its component parts: large proteins, polypeptides, and eventually amino acids. The same goes for fats and carbohydrates; they don't stand a chance against this powerful acid. Without a proper level of hydrochloric acid, your food passes from your stomach to your small intestine underprepared for the next stage of digestion. The pH isn't low enough, and so the grand concert of digestion hits a sour note. Enzymes and Bile: The Supporting Cast Imagine your pancreas and gallbladder like stagehands in a theater. They're backstage, waiting for the signal to release their respective performers: digestive enzymes and bile. The cue for these vital actors to enter stage right? A low enough pH level indicates the presence of enough hydrochloric acid. If the pH level isn't right, the stagehands stay put. The consequence? Poor digestive enzyme production and inadequate bile release. Symptoms of Poor Hydrochloric Acid Production Gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea – these are not just inconvenient symptoms. They're your body's distress signals, waving red flags to alert you of a potentially inflamed gut. The underlying issue might be inadequate hydrochloric acid production, resulting in a poorly functioning digestive system. Hydrochloric Acid: The Guardian of Your Gut Did you know your stomach acid plays a pivotal role in preventing the overgrowth of harmful bacteria? In this regard, think of hydrochloric acid as a weed killer, safeguarding your gut garden from invading weeds. Without enough acid, these 'weeds' proliferate, leading to an unpleasant condition known as Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO). Concluding Thoughts on Hydrochloric Acid Now, isn't it clear that your stomach acid, especially hydrochloric acid, is critical to your health and well-being? It's a cornerstone of your digestion, breaking down food, triggering vital processes, and even protecting you from harmful bacteria. So the next time you're enjoying a hearty meal, remember to give a mental nod to your amazing stomach acid. If you found this enlightening, why not spread the knowledge? Sharing is caring, after all. Like, comment, and share this with someone who might benefit from it. P.S. Curious about your hydrochloric acid levels? We've got a handy protocol on our website that can help you figure that out. - Unmasking the Hidden Impact of Past Concussions on Brain Health
The Undetected Influence of Yesteryear's Concussions Are you consistently experiencing cognitive sluggishness, mental fatigue, or slight cognitive decline? These symptoms might be rooted in a concussion you suffered years ago - whether it was ten, twenty, or even thirty years prior. A significant number of individuals, wrestling with brain fog and fatigue, have approached me with concerns about cognitive decline. After conducting a detailed examination of their medical history, I often discover a past concussion event. It's important to note that the severity of the concussion doesn't always correlate with the long-term impact; even a mild concussion could lead to these symptoms. See my content on brain health The Subtle Influence of Past Concussions Often, these individuals were involved in a motor vehicle accident, experienced whiplash, or endured some form of brain trauma. Now, years later, they find their brain function compromised. Current research suggests that our brains can be 'primed' by past injuries. In simpler terms, this means that a prior injury, such as a concussion, could make the brain more susceptible to subsequent 'insults' or traumas. The Domino Effect of Neuroinflammation What exactly happens is that an injury sustained a decade or more ago primes your brain, setting the stage for easier harm from even subtle insults today. This susceptibility can lead to increased neuroinflammation, which is when the brain becomes more inflamed. When this occurs, you're likely to experience symptoms such as brain fog, mental fatigue, and dysautonomia. Navigating the Medical Maze Often, people suffering from these symptoms embark on a frustrating journey from one doctor to another, yet find no satisfactory answers. This is largely because no one has probed into whether they've had any concussions or whether they've been in any motor vehicle accidents in the past. The pivotal link between neuroinflammation and past concussions is frequently overlooked. Unseen Consequences of Past Injuries Concussions can cause significant neuroinflammation over time. So, while you might have sustained a head injury years ago with seemingly no symptoms, that old injury could be stealthily impacting your brain today. Conclusion: Prioritize Brain Health Understanding the connection between past concussions and current cognitive issues can be the first step towards better brain health.
